Acting Workshops

Our Acting Workshops are run by Nigel Banks

Nigel Banks is an experienced actor, director and teacher of Drama and Theatre Studies. He joined The Green Room Club in 2014 after moving to the Carlisle area from Kent. Since then he has directed Someone To Watch Over Me by Frank McGuinness and God of Carnage by Yasmina Reza in the main theatre, as well as Bar Productions of two of his own original plays Wigs and Knickers and Institute, Destitute, Substitute. He has also acted in GRC productions of Accidental Death of an Anarchist, The Rise and Fall of Little Voice, Jerusalem and Broadway Bound. His theatrical career stretches back over 40 years during which time has played everything from a child, to God (twice!) and, by way of contrast, the eponymous “Bogeyman” in a large scale community show in Kendal, as well as various ages and types of roles in between.

He has directed everything from medieval mystery plays, Shakespeare, Jacobean revenge tragedies to adaptations of Dickens and Hardy, as well as modern plays by Pinter, Miller, O’Casey, Brian Friel, Sue Townsend, Neil Labute and Mark Ravenhill amongst others. He started writing his own original scripts for Ashcan, the small scale theatre company he co-founded whilst teaching in Kent. He then adapted them for Channel Radio, an internet station, of which he was a director for a number of years. His plays and stories are now available on The Audio Drama Show podcast.
